The Andover Recycling Program is a community effort sponsored jointly by the Andover Recycling Committee and the Department of Public Works.  The objectives are to:
  • Protect the environment by keeping toxins and other materials out of the Northeast Solid Waste Collection (waste to-energy) facility;
  • Save money for Andover by avoiding costs for incineration of trash;
  • Save resources by reusing raw materials;
  • Increase the number of participants in the recycling program;
  • Increase the amounts of materials that can be recycled by residents and organizations;
  • Reduce the total amount of disposable solid waste;
  • Advance recycling for residents of multifamily housing;
  • Improve the household hazardous waste collection and proper disposition programs;
  • Heighten public awareness of recycling and related issues
  • Work toward a sustainable environment

Andover residents believe in protecting the environment.  They have implemented a strong recycling program to complement a regular trash disposal program toward that end.

Trash is collected weekly at the curbside for residences;  recyclables are collected biweekly.  Restrictions apply in terms of what one can place in each.  Some materials are not allowed in either one for sound reasons, but there are means to dispose of them legally outside the program.  Click on the What, When, and How for complete information on all three options.

Adjuncts to the regular programs are events to collect materials that are harmful to the environment and people -- Household Hazardous Waste , May 30, 2009, and CRT and Electronic Recycling, September 20, 2008 and June 6, 2009.  Click for details.

Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Rethink!!

Andover has had to collect less trash as solid waste and has collected more through recycling during the last four years, ended June 30, 2007.  The Town has thereby avoided $185,000 in costs.  Click the Why option for complete details and report. (8/07)
