RECYCLING MADE EASY

What One Should and Should Not Recycle Biweekly

FOR CURBSIDE PICKUP in a blue recycling bin:                      Check the How Option for unlisted items

Do Recycle: Do Not Recycle; put in trash, except as noted:
Metal:  
  • Beverage cans
  • Aluminum, steel, tin cans
  • Aluminum pie plates or trays; 

Rinsed and cleaned!

  • Aluminum foil
  • Latex Paint cans  (click for details)
  • Aerosol cans
  • Coat hangers
  • Metal cookware
  • Small amounts of metal  (click for details)
Glass: 
  • Clear, green or brown food or beverage containers

Rinsed and cleaned!

 
  • Broken glass
  • Mirrors
  • Ceramic plates or cookware
  • Drinking glasses
  • Light bulbs (floursescent must be delivered to crt event)
  • Windows
Plastic: 
  • Soda bottles
  • Detergent bottles
  • Milk, juice or water jugs

Rinsed and cleaned!

 
  • Plastic bags (recycle at grocery stores)
  • Aseptic cartons, such as those in which milk or tomatoes come
  • All styrofoam; perhaps pellets may be recycled at UPS store
  • Chemical or motor oil containers
Cardboard: 
  • Cardboard recycling is mandatory; it will not be accepted in trash!

Broken down, flattened and folded into two feet by two feet by one foot bundles, tied or taped together and placed next to the recycling bin!

 

 

Paper: 
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Catalogs
  • Junk mail
  • Envelopes
  • Books with hard covers removed (see also GotBooks.com)
  • Paper bags
  • Phone books
  • Office or computer paper
  • Boxboard, such as those in which cereals come, with the liners removed

Tie or tape stacks of paper together or put the papers into paper bags.  Place on the top of or next to the bin containing other recyclables; do not put on wet or snow covered surface.

Note:  Large, personal containers, such as a thirty gallon trash barrel, may be used for metal, glass or plastics only, providing they have a clearly visible red recycling sticker affixed to them; these stickers are available at the Water Treatment Plant, 397 Lowell Street (Route 133)

 
  • Food soiled paper or boxes
  • Aseptic cartons, such as those in which milk or tomatoes come

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Recycling bins are available at the Water Treatment Plant at 397 Lowell Street for Andover residents;  DPW requests that residents take but one to keep the costs to the Town down.
