James Dargan, baritone: Oh, Glory! Black History Matters
Saturday, January 19, 2019
As part of Phillips Academy's celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy, the Department of Music will present a voice recital by James Dargan, baritone on Saturday, January 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Cochran Chapel on the Phillips Academy campus. The recital entitled, Oh Glory! Black History Matters, grew out of a desire to celebrate Black American musical history. Dargan takes us through the history of some Black musicians in the twentieth century.
In Dargan's words: "Oh, Glory! (is) a program celebrating these artists and Black history through the music of these five legendary Black singers." Dargan believes, "Art isn't segregated…When we see the totality of these Black artists, then it becomes clear: Black History Matters, because Black Lives Matter. Because Lives Matter."
This concert is free and open to the public. Cochran Chapel is handicapped accessible. For more information call the Music Department at (978) 749-4260 or e-mail to music@andover.edu.
